Set the Table - Autumn in the Breakfast Nook
It is nearing the end of summer and time to think about Fall decorating.
I am slightly sad that summer is coming to a close, but, I am also looking forward to autumn. It is one of the most beautiful times of the year.
I am slightly sad that summer is coming to a close, but, I am also looking forward to autumn. It is one of the most beautiful times of the year.
Since most of the pumpkins are still in the fields, I decided to start in the kitchen with some painted faux pumpkins.
We painted these pumpkins last year.
They were the typical dollar store pumpkins in varying sizes. We painted them with two coats of chalk paint and then waxed them with a tinted liquid wax that we painted on and let set-up for a few minutes.
Next, we buffed them with a soft cloth leaving some of the wax in the cracks and crevices.
The plastic stems were replaced with dried pumpkin stems that we had from the previous year.
I pop off the pumpkin stems each year and leave them where they can dry out completely.
The bottom plate in the stack is from Pier 1 Imports. The Cinnamon-coloured plates are from Bombay a few years ago and the salad plate is Coastline.
The amber-coloured glasses are from the thrift store.
The orange-handled knives and the jug are old and I think both came from England.
Instructions on how to make the Linen napkins and table runner can be found in an earlier post
I like using this old table in the kitchen. It is sort of rustic and has a few dings here and there.
We used faux bittersweet to add a bit of colour on the pumpkins.
Autumn remains one of my favourite times of the year.
I like the cooler temperatures, sweaters, and warmer colours.
Thank you for stopping by.

Hi! I'm Alycia. I'm a first time visitor to your blog following a 2-year absence from Tablescape Thursday. I blogged for 5 straight years and then took a health sabbatical. It's good to be back and find a goldmine of fresh faces and talent at TT! I am not quite ready for fall (because that means winter is a stone's throw away!), but I do love seeing the pretty settings popping up. Yours is no exception! Great score on the thrift store glasses!! Really great job on painting the pumpkins, too. I'm not a person who is comfortable with paint, so I appreciate seeing what others do with it. I see in your bio that you and your partner own a couple of properties. Lots of work, but surely rewarding on its own. Kudos to your daughter for being your cheerleader, too! Nice to "meet" you. Have a fantastic weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello Alycia. It is so nice to meet you. Does this mean you will be a regular on TT again? I would love to see some of your work. Thank you for your wonderful comments and encouraging words. All the best to you.
DeleteEverything here is so very beautiful. I'm not ready for fall but I have a feeling I'll be returning to this post. I love the white pumpkins. I think I'm in the mood for painting some pumpkins in the near future here! These are inspiring -- love that you were specific with the directions.
ReplyDeleteI may not be ready for fall or winter but I do love those rich browns, rusts and golds. I suspect those will be making an appearance in my house within a few weeks.
I can't believe I am getting ready for fall, Jeanie. In Blogland the change of seasons seem to start early. I do love those rich fall colours that last until winter and then I am ready to see some lighter and brighter colour.
DeleteSo very pretty! I love the painted pumpkins! I am using painted pumpkins and bittersweet in my decor somewhere this year, I won't know exactly where until I start decorating and inspiration hits. Tomorrow is Sept. 1 and I am ready to get going!
ReplyDeleteAmber, I hope your Fall decorating is going well. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteYour fall table setting is so very pretty. Love that you replaced the pumpkin stems with real ones onto the faux pumpkins - the white paint is pretty too!

p.s. My mother's name was Barbara! :)
Catherine, what can I say? Your mother has a good name. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteYour table is beautiful. I love fall, it's my favorite time of year. I love how you reused the pumpkin stems. I'm going to preserve future stems for my faux pumpkins. Thanks for sharing, and I would love for you to join my Sunday's Best linkup. We're live and featuring fall posts.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the invite, Rhonda. I don't always have an internet connection on the weekends. It is something we are working on out in the country and we hope to have the problem resolved soon. Hopefully, I can join you soon. Thank you so much for stopping by.
DeleteI love everything here! Such a fabulous collection of neutral fall items. That orange-handled flatware really sends me!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pattie, for stopping by and leaving such nice comments.
