July in the Country

July in the Country

I was not raised on a farm, there is so much I don't know about farming.

I was raised in a semi-rural area and when I walked out my back door the farmer's fields were right there at the end of our property.

I used to watch Mr Kennedy on his tractor and then after the wheat harvest we were allowed to walk across the field.

Today, living in the country on a farm part time I have learned a couple of things.

I have learned that when the heads of the wheat bend down it is time to harvest.  This will usually happen late July.

These are such hot and lazy days.

I look forward to the wheat harvest and this is why.

Getting photos like this after the straw has been rolled makes me bounce out of bed and run out of the house in pyjamas and rubber boots, camera in hand.

It's not always easy to get the light just right.

Sometimes you have to wait for a cloud to float by.

What I didn't like about walking across Mr Kennedy's fields after the harvest was the wheat stubble.  It always scratched my ankles.

That's why I took to wearing boots.

I love those long shadows and the colour of the light.

Before you go....

We want to show you one more thing.

A spectacular summer sunset.

I like this one because at the top of the picture you can see an illuminated jet trail.

Thanks for stopping by.

A Winter's Walk in the Country

A Winter's Walk in the Country

It has been cold, snowy, overcast, and sometimes drizzly in the country where we are.  Here are a few pictures that will be sure to keep you inside with a warm cup of tea.

Sunrise.  The sky looks promising.  It's not long until it is completely clouded over.

Two gate posts near the driveway.

A  view of the leafless maple tree and old shed.

We call this our Mental Health Bench.  It is positioned under a tree and it is near the garden.  The garden is not in the picture.

Looking out across the fields.

After a storm.

Ice and Snow

I know that winter has its beauty, and it really does.   But, wait until you see it here in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Another view of the shed.

Coffee on the Porch.

I'll be back soon.  Thanks for stopping by.

January - a great time for a new start

January - a great time for a new start.

Barbara Windle

Yes, January is a good time for a new start.  I had promised myself that I was going to publish a new blog this year and now I am doing it.  The blog will be about my passion: easy elegant decorating and beautiful gardens.

My partner and I are fortunate to have two properties in our possession.  One is a small house in the city and the other is a farm in the country.  I hope to be able to share photos and projects from both properties in my posts.

Today, I will share photos from the farm property.  It is a beautiful 100 acre farm in Ontario.  Up until about three years ago beef cows were kept and as well chickens and crops were grown.  The crops are still grown and chickens are raised in summer.  We make jams, jellies, sweet breads, preserves and our speciality Iced Red Currant Tea.  We get fresh eggs from the neighbours or from my son and daughter-in-law who live down the road.

A January morning in the Country

Winter in the country is a lovely time of year.  It is a time to renew and make plans for the next season.  It is a time to reflect and be thankful for this beautiful place.

I have a lot of ideas to share in future posts and later this week I will be sharing an idea for your old Christmas wreath.

I hope you can come along with me on this new journey.
