the last of the lilacs
After most of the lilacs have finished blooming, we have a late blooming variety that dazzles us every year from mid to late June.
They border the property along the roadside.
They keep the bees very busy.
They practically overwhelm us with their perfume.
They work wonderfully well as cut flowers.
Here, they are in small vases down the centre of a dining table with a few yellow buttercups mixed in.
I picked them near the end of their bloom cycle and by the next day, most of the flowers had dropped.
Goodbye, you beautiful lilacs, until next year.
Thanks for stopping by.
Barbara

I love lilacs so much and their season is so short. They have the most gorgeous fragrance!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog. Someday I hope to take our Baby Grand to see a production of Peter Pan, simply for the reaction you shared when taking your granddaughter. Sheer magic!
Thank you for stopping by, Jeanie. Peter Pan is one of those plays that every child should see and every adult should revisit at least once in their life. I enjoy your posts.
DeleteYour lilacs are stunning, what a treat to have them looking so wonderful during June, perfectly in time for the bees to enjoy!

Thank you for your lovely comments, Maggie. I hope you have a wonderful week.
DeleteBarbara - the pictures of the lilacs were so good that I could smell the fragrance through my computer. It brought back wonderful childhood memories - I don't have any lilacs near my home now! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAngie, I wish I could send the fragrance to you, especially since you don't have any near now.
DeleteAren't they glorious? Your lilacs are divine, that color! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lidy. The bushes have become quite massive over the years.
