Autumn Inside Outside




Autumn is a time of year when we begin to turn our gaze indoors when we start to think of gathering around the hearth, warm blankets, hearty meals, candles and sweaters.

We are not entirely ready to stay inside, though, and there is still a lot to see and do outside.


For so many it is a new beginning, a new year.  It is the start of the school year.

I am usually sad to see the end of summer, however this year I have welcomed the cooler temperatures of fall.



A visit to a local roadside vegetable stand is always a must for me.

This is Linton's Farm Market




I look forward to the harvest and the glorious colours of autumn.







Back inside it is time to pull out the plaid and tartan wool throws and have some fun decorating with faux and real pumpkins.




The blankets are fun to use outside too.

Ontario nectarines have been very sweet and delicious this year.


We have harvested a few pumpkins from our patch.

 These are just some of the white and green ones.  There are still lots more to pick.

The plates from front to back are a glass pumpkin plate from Bowrings, Baldero Pinheiro Grape pattern (I have just the one plate), and Spice Road Ginger from Pier 1 Imports.

Is It Pumpkin Time Yet?



This is Maximus who was born in the barn next to the pumpkin patch about four years ago.

He knows about pumpkins.


The pumpkin mounds are huge this year.

They are more than waist high and have spread up to twenty feet across.

It's a good thing we have lots of space for them.





There have been a lot of flowers but we should check on their progress.






They are still a little small and green.

Our Irish neighbour likes to call the unripe green ones Irish pumpkins.




Some of them are supposed to be green, though.







The white pumpkins are starting to grow and look good.








 The orange pumpkins are not nearly ready.

 Some of these will be the smaller pie pumpkins

 They all need more time.

 It is still early. In about a month they should be ready.

Fall Front Porch



It is hard to believe that another summer is almost over and we are looking toward Autumn.



The summer wreath was replaced with a twiggy grapevine wreath.  Faux gourds, mini pumpkins, and faux sunflowers and fall leaves were wired and glued to the wreath.



We decorated the door, the window box, and the bench and placed a pumpkin stack next to the bench.



The made in Scotland tartan blanket is Buchanan Antique.  The 'antique' part of the name doesn't mean that the blanket is antique, but rather the colouring of the blanket is muted making it look antique.  The colours in the Buchanan tartan are quite a bit brighter than this blanket.




The window box holds three white pumpkins with some faux fall leaves.  It is too early here to find fall leaves.











The pumpkins are stacked in a short black urn.  They sit on cut garden sage and we have added sage between each pumpkin.

The sage was readily available from the garden and gives the pumpkin stack more dimension and presence.
